FREE SPEED TEST

AFOQT Arithmetic Reasoning — Free Timed Speed Test

Practice reading word problems, estimating quickly, and moving on before one calculation consumes your clock.

Arithmetic Reasoning is one of the AFOQT's quantitative subtests: 25 word problems in 29 minutes. Questions cover rates, distance and time, percentages, ratios, averages, and multi-step budgeting — the kind of math that's simple on paper but punishing against the clock. This free timed set of 12 original samples trains the two skills that decide your score under pressure: estimating fast enough to eliminate wrong answers, and knowing when to skip and come back.

What's on the AR subtest

  • Format: 25 questions, 29 minutes (~70 seconds each)
  • Hand-computation practice — estimate, simplify, and eliminate implausible answers
  • Counts toward your Quantitative composite (combined with Math Knowledge)
  • Common question types: rate–time–distance, percent change, ratio splits, averages, unit rates, multi-step word problems

Speed strategy

Estimate and eliminate. You often need only enough precision to rule out wrong options, not a complete calculation.

Skip and return

Flag a question when you stall, move on, and use the review screen before time expires. One hard item should not consume the session.

Arithmetic Reasoning FAQ

Is a calculator allowed on the AFOQT Arithmetic Reasoning subtest?

The Pearson VUE AFOQT page and the Air Force practice pamphlet reviewed do not state a calculator rule for current AFOQT appointments. Calculator policy remains unverified; confirm it with your test control officer or testing provider. Scratch materials are addressed separately below. The Air Force practice pamphlet describes supplied scratch paper alongside pencil-and-answer-sheet procedures (page 4). That statement does not verify the materials supplied at a current computer-based appointment. Policy sources checked: 2026-10-10. This site's drill uses no calculator as a training condition.

How many Arithmetic Reasoning questions are on the AFOQT?

The Arithmetic Reasoning subtest has 25 questions with a 29-minute limit — about 70 seconds per question. It combines with the Math Knowledge subtest to form your Quantitative composite score.

What kind of math is on AFOQT Arithmetic Reasoning?

Word problems — rates, distance and time, percentages, ratios and proportions, averages, and multi-step problems such as budgets or splits. The arithmetic is basic, but you have to set the problem up quickly and calculate accurately.

How is this speed test different from the real AFOQT?

This is a free set of 12 original practice questions written by AFOQT Lab. It is not official test content and not a complete question bank — it's built to train your pacing and estimation, not to replicate the exam.
